How does your film opening reflect real media products?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=johOsZBq9sA Above is the link to this evaluation question title, it was done in a visual way to show the correlation of aspects from our film opening and how those aspects are shown in the films that we analysed.

How did you attract/address your audience?

Image
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bruYZyzM3xo Above is the link to our audience research, we asked them multiple questions on what we showed them in our film opening and how we portrayed the codes and conventions of real platforms in our film opening. From this feedback I have learnt that in our film opening we have approached the codes and conventions of slashes well. this is also visual evidence that we photographed to show them actually watching the film, and being truthful about the responses we received from the individuals.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt from the progression from it to the full product?

Image
Looking back at my preliminary task, I believe that I understand the codes and conventions of the sub-genre slasher, than I did before. Our prelim task had no relevance in the connection of a slasher film, it was done simply to understand the rules embedded. Our prelim task is a continuity edit, therefore it doesn't look poorly lighted, however the lighting does vary.  In our preliminary task it is clear that we did not take into consideration everything in the scene. However the context of the whole teacher, pupil interaction is clear through the dialect and costumes. Since creating the preliminary task, my knowledge of how to create a successful mise en scene has grown, especially when analyzing and researching the codes and conventions of a slasher film.  I have learnt that with planning, you can ensure you will gain a continuous style throughout; this is reflected in creating a shooting schedule so that the actors and us as a group would be at the location when needed a...

Audience Research- who would be the audience for your media product?

Image
1.        A Nightmare On Elm Street and scream received the highest response rate as being a person’s favorite slasher film. Due to this, I believe that as a group we should take aspects out of those films and incorporate them into our film opening, if possible, to make our film opening appeal to its target audience. 2.        How people consume the media is mainly through their mobile phone, so in order to make our film opening appealing to our target audience, I believe that it should be in a format that can be shared across all social media websites. Therefore this increases the promotion of our film opening and our institution. If we were to produce a whole film, we would produce a trailer which would draw in the target audience in to watch the film when it is released. It could also be submitted to online film sites and submitted to TV and cable shows. 3.   ...

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Image
Research Slideshare- allowed me to upload a powerpoint onto the web, and then permitted me to insert the link onto my blog. I have developed the skills of being able to upload one media format and create it into something else, slideshare is a more creative format then powerpoint as it gives the information that is on the slides below the powerpoint so viewers can use the information i have found as it is readily available on the web. Clip converter- it was easily accessible, and enables me to create a clip into the format that I needed in order to complete the second evaluation question. Youtube- is free online software and accommodates to all users as you can access multi media platforms such as music, blogs, films etc. It gave us conventional ideas for our film opening, and allowed us to take screenshots of films and embed them into my blog. I learnt how to upload videos with youtube capture on my mobile phone. This is useful as mobile phones are easily accessibl...

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Image
Sexuality- The gay males challenge the conventional 'couple' who are male and female. This similarly links to Gauntletts idea that the relationship between the mass media and identity argues that the mass media today challenge the traditional definitions of gender; is is represented in our film as their dialect challenges the idea of toughness and emotional reticence as they contradict this idea by being more involved in 'girl talk'.  Age- The teenagers in the film opening are drinking and smoking which may appeal to our target audience. The idea of drinking and smoking reinforces Stuart Halls' idea that the negative representation of young people is deliberate and justifies social control. Which in this case the drinking and smoking was deliberate, as these objects connote danger.  Gender- All characters are represented equally as the camera shots and angles do not show one character being more dominant. However when Ellie is framed on her own it conveys her as the...

Institutional Research- what kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

New Line Cinema- Institutional Research Below is a link that will transfer you to my prezi, you will be able to view all my research about different aspects of New Line Cinema. http://prezi.com/zt2q4vcy56vv/?utm_campaign=share&utm_medium=copy The reason I chose to do this research in a prezi format was due to the idea that media studies is a creative subject, and I think that this publication reflects that, and introduces a new format to my blog in a more visual interactive way, rather that just documents. However other formats such as pictures and mindmaps are included.

Flashback film opening

http://youtu.be/EN3EE8GxX3s Above is the link to our film opening which is the sub-genre slasher. We decided to choose this genre as if we decided to a genre such as Sci-Fi it would be difficult as we did not have access to CGI or special effects, it would of been extremely time consuming as the makeup and costumes would of been a vital part in a Sci-Fi film.

Shotlist

Image
This shotlist was well thought out of what conventional shots are used within the sub-genre slasher. I believe that most of the shots were included, with possibly extra shots that we might have just come up with on the spot and little details that were not included such as Ellie wearing the headphones. It was put into this format as it was easy for us to follow as a group and tell the cast were to position themselves, how they they should look such as their body language and facial expressions.

Storyboard

Image
Initially this was going to be our storyboard, but when we realised that we was wasting too much filming time on doing shots of just the characters to try to 'introduce' them to the audience we realised that it was pointless. Also this timeline had no depth or detail to it so we decided to do it again which is the one below. This timeline has more depth to it and was more thought out. The blank spaces were left as if what we had filmed was not enough we would film extra things and include them into our opening. I believe that this timeline is a lot more detailed than the figure above. Although I think that what we filmed did reflect the timeline quite a lot, other than just individual shots of the characters which were not included.

Timeline

Image
Our timeline includes how long that certain shot is going to last, visual images and the shots that are going to be used. I believe that we have stuck to this timeline consistently well, with maybe a few shots just over or under the time scheduled. This format was chosen as is it very visual and adds insight into our film opening. Although slasher films use dark, dull colours I considered that images would create my blog to be more vibrant, rather than just a timeline with explainations of what shots are going to be used.
